Piggyback barcodes
Piggyback barcodes have been purchased for use on materials which are expected to be rebound after cataloging. These materials include unbound, spiral bound, clasped, damaged or poorly bound materials, and some paperbacks not expected to hold up to use. If you are at all in doubt about the suitability of a book's binding or publisher's container, use a piggyback barcode. Place the label on the title page of the book, not the cover or preliminary pages, as the latter may get be removed at the bindery causing the barcode to be lost. Remember to insert a piggyback flag when you use a piggyback barcode to alert Marking staff that you are questioning the material for attention. Once bound, Preservation removes the actual barcode from its backing, leaving a blank label on the t.p.
