  • 1109 SAS Building ; has wireless

  • Contact at SAS Building: Carolyn Gunyon: Room 2109 ; 5-2270 ; cbgunton@math.ncsu.edu
  • Work through books first, put problems aside ; theses and dissertations will be done last by 2 staff yet to be determined

REMEMBER: DO NOT REBOOT LAPTOP!!  Just close the top and they will go to sleep. If you accidently turn off or restart the laptop or the laptop reboots due to a power outage, CP has loaded Symphony on a flashdrive that will reinstall the software; see note below at end of document.

If you get logged out of the wireless or if Sirsi tells you that you can't connect to the server, open a web browser which should automatically launch a window where you can log in to the wireless (nomad).  Log in using your UNITY ID.  You will definitely need to do this when the machines wake from sleep.

There are little yellow stickers on the laptops indication where the WiFi symbol (denoting it's active) and the bar to turn it on/off are. It's easy to confuse the open latch with the WiFi bar, so says as learned a man as CP. Some of us do not use laptops so this is for us.

Objectives:

  • Replace dummy barcodes in Math Working Collection materials so that materials can be checked out using the 3M self checkout system.
  • Add tattletape strips to materials lacking them to make the 3M system effective.
  • Add Math Working Collection's copies of NCSU theses/dissertations to the existing records in SIRSI Symphony.

Pre/Post Processing

The books are on shelves more or less in call number order. (They were moved from Harrelson by movers; our experience here tells us that movers do not know the LC class scheme.)  Pull a group at a time to place on your truck and you are set. As you finish a section, please mark it DONE.  Problems will be referred to Patrice, Lisa or Anne. Ones that can not be resolved will be sent back to Hill in a yellow bin, for example an item that may require original cataloging. We are not sure what we may find there and how the laptops may perform so we'll be flexible and relaxed.

Processing

Barcodes

There are 2 ways to add the barcode to the item with the dummy barcode. One is the usual way we do it in the Cataloging Module. Rob remembered a way to do it in the Circulation Module that is quicker and here are the steps:

Change Item ID Wizard

  1. Click the ITEMS group wizard.
  2. Click the Change Item ID wizard.
  3. Search for the item in hand. The Math Working Collection copy should be an added location to the Hill or other branch copy. Therefore, be sure you highlight the dummy barcode that is used for the MATH home location.
  4. On the Change Item ID : Item Search screen, look at the bottom of the screen; you will see CHANGE ITEM ID. Click it.
  5. On the Change Item ID screen, you will see the dummy barcode in the existing item ID box. Scan your new barcode into the New Item ID box. Place barcode in the usual place, upper left hand corner of book.
  6. A Complete record updated box will appear. If you are ready to proceed to another book, can CHANGE ANOTHER ITEM ID. If not, Close the box.

If you prefer to use this way, you can set your default toolbar to CIRCULATION:

Add the barcode the way you are most comfortable; that will be the most time effective way for YOU (smile)

Tattletape Process TBD

Melvalee will provide guidance on Monday

Other Information

  • SAS Building (Building 32A on map)  is located across Stinson Drive from Poe Hall.
  • SAS room 1109 is on the ground floor. Most likely cell phones will not work. However, an exit to outdoors is very handy so you can periodically check for messages.
  • There are restrooms and vending machines on the ground floor. Carolyn says it is fine to have drinks if they are in containers that close. There is a new Port City Java nearby in Park Shops that opens at 7:30 a.m.
